Managing passwords can take a great deal of time and energy for Administrators. The Password Change web part delegates most of the work to users within the system without administrative intervention, who then take the initiative to create all notifications and confirmations. This can be a huge time saver for Administrators who can work on more rewarding and difficult tasks.
Administrators can now organize their work well in advance and simply monitor the process. This function takes the traditional idea that Administrators used to control, but now it’s been modernized to trickle down the responsibility to the users. However, this doesn’t mean that users maintain full control over the system, but rather Administrators can choose which users are able to change passwords and which aren’t. They are able to set detailed information such as password policies; including length and security requirements.
A log record will be saved allowing administrators to see up-to-date changes made by every user. This can save any confusion as to who changed what. It will also allow Administrators to retrieve any changed passwords if the user has forgotten their old or new password.
The Expiration Web Part also allows Administrators to send a notification email to users when their passwords are soon to expire, which can save a big hassle. For example, if a user was not notified that their password was to expire, and eventually it did expire, the Administrator would have to search for the users information and retrieve it themselves, which would take time and focus away from the more important aspects of the Administrators job.
Another detailed feature is that users are sent confirmation emails after they have successfully changed their passwords, which gives the user the most up to date information, allowing for a hassle-free environment where everything is allowed to run smoothly. Administrators can also customize error messages, allowing for a more personal and freer environment.
The Password Change and Expiration program supports multiple languages including English, Japanese, and German. The Operating Systems compatible are Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x86/x64 and R2, with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation or Server 2010 and Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.
