Rest in Peace, Mobile Flash! HTML5 is the King Now
Adobe this week announced that they would cease developing Flash Player for mobile devices and start to pour resources into HTML5. They will keep working on Flash for PC though.
“We are super excited about the HTML 5 and next generation Flash.” declared folks from Adobe. They have been working on HTML 5 APP for a while and some cool apps are to hit markets in the future.
This is a striking contrast with their reaction three years ago when Apple’s chief Steve Jobs denounced Flash. They swore that they would develop a new Flash to support mobile devices within a year and even sued Apple for this. Ironically, there was always “next-year” in their announcement about Flash on mobile yet no actual release.
This reminds me of Silverlight and its owner Microsoft. They dropped this technology last year in a lot of products and have focused on HTML5 since then. Well done Microsoft!
Yahoo!, Microsoft, AOL Made an Agreement on Displaying Advertising
Three internet giants, Microsoft, Yahoo! and AOL announced an agreement which allows them to share their premium displaying advertising inventory with each others. This should give their customers a way to choose non-booked advertising space from a common inventory.
Facebook is the biggest player in displaying field, and it is also the obvious target of the agreement. For AOL and Yahoo!, displaying ads are their bread and butter. Moreover, displaying ads has been a very dramatically growing activity in the past couple years. But Yahoo! and AOL have not gained any ground in terms of market share. Good luck to the three catch-uppers!
