1. Introduction

Item Permission Batch allows administrators to bulk manage item permissions, including adding and removing user permissions as well as inheriting permissions from list.

It also enables administrators to set conditions to filter which items will be affected.

Note: Item Permission Batch will disable Permission by Rule (formerly Permission Workflow) in the current list.

2. Feature Activation

After you have successfully installed and deployed our solution in your SharePoint environment, go to Site Settings – Site Collection Features and locate the Item Permission Batch feature. To activate it click the Activate button.

Note: SharePoint Item Permission Batch will be automatically activated, by default, if you installed this product using the setup.exe application.

Once Item Permission Batch features are activated in site collection, the product commands will be available in the list or library ribbon.

3. Bulk Add Permissions

a. Enter a list or library and select the items which you want to manage permissions. Click Bulk Add Permissions on the ribbon; you will enter the settings page.

b. In the Include Users section, specify the users which you want to assign permissions.

Here, we will assign permissions for one user column. Click Select more users to expand the settings part and select Account Name in the Choose User/Group Columns section as follows:

You can assign permissions to specified users or groups by entering the names of the users or groups in the Enter users/groups section.

Or you can assign permissions to user columns from another list by selecting user columns. Conditions can be defined to filter users.

c. In the Permission Settings section, select the permission levels which you want to assign to users. These permission levels are pulled from the Site Collection permission settings.

You can manage specified items permissions which are filtered by conditions.

Once you have configured the above settings, you can click the OK button. You will see the following screen:

d. Click Manage Permissions for any one item. You will notice that permissions have been assigned to the user column.

4. Bulk Remove Permissions

a. Enter a list or library and select the items which you want to remove permissions. Click Bulk Remove Permissions on the ribbon; you will enter the settings page.

b. In Include Users -> Enter users/groups section, enter the user or group names in the box.

c. In the Permission Settings section, select the permission levels which you want to remove from the specified users.

d. Click OK.

e. After the changes take effect, enter the permission settings page from any one item and you will find the user’s specified permissions have been removed.

5. Bulk Inherit Permissions

This function provides the administrator the ability to bulk inherit permission settings from list for selected items.

a. In the list, select the items which you want to inherit permissions.

b. Click Bulk Inherit Permissions on the ribbon and a pop-up will be displayed as follows:

This function will cause custom permission settings to be lost for the selected items. Click OK to confirm and inherit the permission settings from list.
