How to define the receive type after resetting password?

Password Reset is a simple Web Part that allows users to reset their passwords via answering security questions. After resetting password, users will receive new passwords directly on the password reset page or via emails.

In this article we will show you how to receive new password in each type.

Defined how to receive new password in Central Administration Password Reset Settings.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Send the new password via e-mail

  1. Download the trial version of Password Reset, and install it to your SharePoint server.

  2. Browse to Central Administration > BoostSolutions Software > Password Reset Settings.

  3. On Password Reset Settings page, click Create new password reset setting.

  4. There are two kinds of Authentication Types – Windows Authentication and Form Based Authentication. Here we select Windows Authentication.

  5. Firstly, under the Authentication tabs, configure the authentication. If all information is set up properly, you may Test the connection and see that it will confirm that it is valid. (Here we recommend you fill-in the domain admin account or a member of domain admin group, it will ensure that the password reset succeed.)

  6. Under Security Questions tab, check the box in front of Enable Reset Password via Security Questions.

    In the Password Receive Type section, we will decide how to receive the new passwords after resetting.

    Option Display in web part means the new password will be displayed on the Web Part once the identities are confirmed.

    Option Send via e-mail means end users will receive an e-mail which contains the new password.

    Here we select Display in web part option first.

  7. Leave other settings as default, then click OK button.

  8. Open a site collection and login a user Denise Brooke, click My Password Reset Settings in the welcome menu.

    Or Click Manage Password Reset Settings link which pop up under the web page.

  9. In My Password Reset Settings page, type the password to identify. And specify a question and answer. Click OK to save the settings. (If you already specify the security question, please skip this step.)

  10. Navigate to the site where Password Reset Web Part added. In the box under the Enter your user name, type in user name. And then click on Reset Password button.

  11. On the web part, select Via Security Question option, fill-in the answers for the questions. And then click Next button.

  12. Then the new password will be shown on the web part as following.

  1. Skip the above steps 1-4, in step 5, select Send via e-mail option.

  2. Leave other settings as default, then click OK button.

  3. Navigate to the site where Password Reset Web Part added. In the box under the Enter your user name, type in user name. And then click on Reset Password button.

  4. On the web part, select Via Security Question option, fill-in the answers for the questions. And then click Next button.

  5. Then there will be a message indicate that password new password has been sent to the e-mail address.

  6. Open the e-mail, you will see the new password as following.
