How to disable ribbon buttons in a SharePoint list view?

By disabling specific features on the ribbon can save users from unnecessary operations or maloperations in a SharePoint list. It makes the ribbon more concise, and users can be more concentrated on operations they need.

With Column/View Permission, you can easily disable specific options or commands without any coding or UI changes.

This article will introduce how to do it in Column/View Permission.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

The 6 ribbon buttons are disabled for user Annie Walker in “All Info” view (the buttons turn grey and unclickable)

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

The sample data we use for this case

And create two views in the Staff Info list, named as All Info and Brief Info. The All Info view includes detailed information as following.

Disable ribbon buttons in a SharePoint list view

  1. Download the trial version of Column/View Permission, and install it to your SharePoint server.

  2. Navigate to the Staff List prepared above, click List, then click Column/View Permission in Settings group, and then click Manage View Permission.

  3. In the View Permission Settings page, click Add Permission Part to create a new permission part (we call a permission configuration as a permission part), specify a unique name for it.

  4. In Include Users section, input a SharePoint user Annie Walker in the Select Users/Groups part as following.

    Of course, you can input any SharePoint users, SharePoint groups, Active Directory groups, or users represented by Person or Group fields (such as Created By, Modified By and Assign To) or anonymous users.

  5. In Permission Settings section, for All Info view, select all ribbon buttons and make them as disabled status as following.

    There are 6 icons indicate the ribbon buttons, you can enable or disable the ribbon buttons in the list view by clicking the corresponding icons.

  6. Then, click OK to save all settings for this permission part.

  7. Log in to SharePoint as user Annie Walker, and navigate to the Staff Info list.

    The 6 ribbon buttons will be disabled for her in All Info view as following.

    But in Brief Info view, the 6 ribbon buttons are available for her as following.
