Password Reset is a simple web part that allows users to reset their passwords either via answering security questions or via receiving an email indicating the password reset link. Users can choose to send the new password their email addresses, when they forget their passwords or when their accounts are locked.
In this article we will show you how to reset the password only via E-mail address.
A link will be sent to the selected e-mail address, then use can click the linkto get a new password.
Download the trial version of Password Reset, and install it to your SharePoint server.
Browse to Central Administration > BoostSolutions Software > Password Reset Settings.
On Password Reset Settings page, click Create new password reset setting.
There are two kinds of Authentication Types – Windows Authentication and Form Based Authentication. Here we select Windows Authentication.
Setting up Windows Authentication Password Reset is quite simple and easy to understand. If all information is set up properly, you may Test the connection and see that it will confirm that it is valid. (See below)
Under E-mail Settings tab, configurate these settings.
In Reset Password via E-mail section, select the checkbox of Enable Reset Password via e-mail , it means that new password will be sent to the user e-mail address.
In Alternative E-mail section, select Enable alternative e-mail and Force user to input the alternative e-mail options.
Leave other settings as default, then click OK button.
Open a site collection and login a user (br\cynthia), click My Password Reset Settings in the welcome menu.
In My Password Reset Settings page, type the password to confirm his identity in Current Password section.
In E-mailsection, fill-in a different e-mail address.
Click OK to confirm everything and My Password Reset settings is saved.
Navigate to the site page where added the Password Reset Web Part. In the box under the Enter your user name, type in user name.
And then click on Reset Password button.
On the Web Part, select Via E-mail Address option, select an e-mail address which is used to receive the new password.
There is already an e-mail which retrieves from the user's profile, another is the alternative e-mail address the user filled in before.
Click Next, then there be a confirmation message on the Web Part.
Open the e-mail, click the link to open the web page.
Then the user will find the new password on the page as following.
