When using Column/View Permission to set view permissions for users, SharePoint groups, or Active Directory groups or users represented by Person or Group fields (such as Created By, Modified By and Assign To) or anonymous users. You may want to exclude specific users from users/groups when configure permission settings to make them not be restricted by the view permissions configured.
Column/View Permission provides an easy way to implement it, in this article we will introduce how to achieve this.
Exclude user Michael Deneys from view permission settings
User Michael Deneys can see all views while other cannot, because she is excluded from the view permission settings which make others can’t see the views
And create three views in the Absence Request List, named as All Requests, Department Requests and My Requests.
Download the trial version of Column/View Permission, and install it to your SharePoint server.
Navigate to the Staff List prepared above, click List, then click Column/View Permission in Settings group, and then click Manage View Permission.
In the View Permission Settings page, click Add Permission Part to create a new permission part (we call a permission configuration as a permission part), specify a unique name for it.
In Include Users section, input SharePoint group Test Dept. in the Select Users/Groups part as following.
This SharePoint group “Test Dept.” contains these members.
In Exclude Users section, input Michael Deneys in the Select Users/Groups part as following.
Michael Deneys is a member of SharePoint group Test Dept., after specifying him in Exclude Users section, this user will not be affected by view permission settings in this permission part.
In Permission Settings section, select the Disable create view (both public and personal) option.
And then specify the Access Type for All Requests, Department Requests and [Personal View] views as Hidden, which means that the members of Test Dept. cannot see these views in the list.
Then, click OK to save all settings for this permission part.
Log in to SharePoint as James Bennett who is a member of Test Dept.; and navigate to the Absence Request List .
First, James Bennett cannot see All Requests, Department Requests and any personal views, he can only see the My Requests view as following.
And the Create View option is unavaliable for James Bennett on list ribbon as following.
Log in to SharePoint as user Michael Deneys which is excluded in Exclude User section; and navigate to the Absence Request List.
First, Michael Deneys can see all views in the list as following.
And the Create View option is available for him in the list as following. Michael Deneys is not affected by the view permission part we created for the SharePoint group Test Dept. at all.
